The school board election for Orion Community Unit School District #223 was held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.  Three seats on the seven-member board of education were to be filled at the election and serve four-year terms expiring in April 2025.  The official election results are as follows:

Four-year term:

 Heather Carlson-Hoftender (Western Township):  357

 Aaron Kayser (Western Township):  335

 Brandon Cooper (Western Township):  329

Heather Carlson-Hoftender and Aaron Kayser were elected for four-year terms expiring in April 2025.  Due to township limitations, only two candidates could be elected from Western Township.  (Current regulations limit Board membership to a maximum of three Board members residing in any township.)  The Orion Board of Education has one Board member with residency in Western Township already seated until April 2023.  Since all three candidates reside in Western Township, and only two candidates from Western Township could be elected, this created a vacancy on the Board.

The Board member vacancy was advertised and three candidates applied for the position.  The Board of Education interviewed all three candidates, and at the May 19, 2021, Orion Board of Education meeting, approved the appointment of Amy Calderone-Blommer to fill the vacant Board of Education member position, effective immediately.  Mrs. Blommer is a resident of Colona Township.  Mrs. Blommer will fill the vacant position until the next consolidated election to be held in April 2023.  We welcome Mrs. Blommer to the Orion Board of Education and thank her for serving our school district!

Thank you to all of the candidates for your interest in Orion Community Unit School District!
