Congrats to the Orion Athletic Booster Club and a huge thank you to the Orion community as Orion High School is one of 16 schools advancing to the Savory 16 in the third annual IHSA Pork & Pigskins State Championship presented by the Illinois Pork Producers Association.
The top four vote getters in each of the four regions advanced to the Savory 16, and now the IHSA’s panel of expert judges will disperse to judge their food from September 21 to October 20. The complete list of advancing schools includes:

Finally Friday Night Lights! Come out and support the Charger Football program tonight with their home opener against the Hall Red Devils! Kickoff is at 7pm and gates will open around 6pm! GO BIG RED!
OHS & OMS Athletic Practices During High Temperatures
This year the Illinois High School Association instituted guidelines that all high schools are required to follow for athletic practices and competitions. We’ve extended those guidelines to include our middle school practices and events as well. The main tool in determining what activities are allowed or not is the WetBulb Globe Temperature (WBGT). The WBGT is a measure of the heat stress in direct sunlight, which takes into account: temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle and cloud cover (solar radiation). This differs from the heat index, which only takes into consideration temperature and humidity.
Required adjustments include shortening practices, water breaks, equipment restrictions, etc. More information can be found at www.ihsa.org.
Come out and support the Charger Volleyball program tonight at their home opener against the Ridgewood Spartans! Freshman game starts at 5pm followed by JV and Varsity to start around 7pm! LET'S GO CHARGERS!
Due to the increased temperatures throughout the day today, BOTH Cross Country and Girls Golf have been cancelled for tonight!
Unfortunately with the increased temperatures throughout the day we have decided to cancel tonight's soccer game at United Township. At this time there will be no make up date.
Due to the expected high temperatures at 4:30pm we will be pushing the start time for tonight's Boys Soccer vs. DePue-Hall back to 6pm here at Charger Field!

Wednesday: We are having a heat wave, a tropical heatwave…
Please join us on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 for a little “Island Time.” Come dressed in your best Tropical shirt or beach attire to help cool you down during our current heat wave. We just ask the students not to wear swimsuits or bikinis. Let’s have a little fun in the sun as we enjoy the last weeks of summer heat before we start cooling down for Fall.

Mr. Lowe lost a bet to a student. The life-long White Sox fan has to wear a Chicago Cubs shirt on Friday, August 25, 2023. Let’s see how many Cub fans we have at CR Hanna.
August 17th is Picture Day at OHS! This also include the senior formal portrait that will be used for the yearbook and class composite.

Your child’s teacher has been assigned to TeacherEase. The quickest way to find the teacher information is to use the following steps:
1. Log into TeacherEase.
2. Select your student
3. Push the button labeled “Send Email” on the left hand side of the website
4. Select a recipient
5. The teacher’s name will appear under the list of “Teachers”.
Class lists will be posted on the website for a short period of time.
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors also have move-in dates!

KINDERGARTEN VISITS
Kindergarten students will be having individual conferences on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. All of the students will have the opportunity to come to school prior to the first day of class. They will meet their teacher, choose their desk, put their supplies away, and check out their new classroom.
Reminder that walk-in athletic physicals are available at OMS tomorrow from 4:30-6:30pm for Orion School District students.
